The US Turned Iraq into Al Queda Breeding Ground

Reader comment on item: Civil War in Iraq?
in response to reader comment: What is a "strategic tragedy"?

"Remember Abu Nidal? He was living in Iraq before the invasion. Saddam may have had him executed, but he lived for many years in Iraq."

Abu Nidal was an old and inactive member of a Palestinian group (most of Abu Nidal's terrorist activities in 1980s were with Yasser Arafat and PLO). He lived in many countries before he was in Iraq. In any case, he was an old and inactive man.

"Remember the money Saddam paid to the families of suicide bombers in Palestine? That was a great incentive for martyrdom."

Nothing to do with al queda, Islamists, or global jihad. This was a political ploy by Saddam to get sympathy from general Muslim and Arab public by pretending to support Palestinians. All Arab states (including US allies) give money to Palestinians and Palestinian groups -- including money to Hamas. Nothing to do with global terror or global Islamist agenda.
