Iraq's Civil War

Reader comment on item: Civil War in Iraq?

Submitted by Leonard Markowitz (United States), Mar 1, 2006 at 06:58

It has become increasingly evident to everyone, except the current administration in Washington, that, regardless of what the coalition forces do or don't do, there will be a bloody civil war in Iraq. This will ultimately result in the emergence of three separate nations, a Shiite south, a Kurdish north and a Sunni center.

The thought of establishing a democratic Iraq is also an absurdity to everyone except the current administration in Washington. The populace in Iraq, with a few minor exceptions, are a 17th century people, with a tribal mores, who have become thrust into the 21st century with modern weaponry. The concept of democracy is totally foreign to them.

Of course, Iran will support the Shiite south, while Turkey, Syria and Iran will vigorously campaign against the formation of an independent Kurdistan. Nevertheless, the establishment of three new nations will arise from the ashes of Iraqi civil war.
