Present Day Iraq Could Go The Way Of Former Yugoslavia

Reader comment on item: Civil War in Iraq?

Submitted by AnneM (United States), Feb 28, 2006 at 16:44

The recent sunni/shia violence in Iraq; which got much more focus when a major shia shrine got blown up last week could end up being a warning sign of things to come. What could most likely happen is that Iraq down the road will end up going the way of the former Yugoslavia and break up, with the Kurds going independent, the shia either becoming an independent country or partnering up with Iran. The sunnis would also look at creating their own country. In truth this could be the most likely outcome because the nation Iraq has really been a nation that came out from the combination of these three groups back in the 1920's.
