Is it the clash of civilizations?

Reader comment on item: The Clash to End All Clashes?

I welcome Daniel Pipes comments. They are well reasoned. In India where a sizeable number of Muslims live along with HIndu majority, Muslim intellectuals, even some clerics, have given divergent opinions. A few of them are progressive and enlightened. While condemning the cartoon as provocative exercise hurting the Muslim sentiments, they have criticised the violence unleashed by the mobs. Some said the violence is against the spirit of Islam.

As a human being I feel the cartoon was not the best form of exercising the freedom of expression; in fact it makes a mockery of it. Though I am a non believer in religion, I feel it unnecessarily provokes the religious minded and as such it impinges on their freedom

Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
