Reader comment on item: The Clash to End All Clashes?

Submitted by Muriel Efron (United States), Feb 7, 2006 at 17:25

I wish I could agree with you that this is not a clash of civilizations. But when I see people rioting in so many countries around the world, I see a clash of societies. These people do not understand, nor do they want to understand, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the separation of church/mosque and state.

The whole non-Muslim world should stand with Denmark now - print the cartoons in every publication - stand up for our freedoms. We are being frightened into submitting to the Muslim fundamentalists. I am afraid to write a letter to my newspaper, not wanting my name released to the public.

We should all buy Denmark products as much as possible.

I fear we will slip into a new Dark Ages, by catering to Muslim fundamentalists. Hard to talk or negoiatate with someone who only wants your full submission or your death.
Imagine those extremists wanting to kill the cartoonists. It would be ludicrous if it weren't so tragic.
