Is there anything we can do about it?

Dr. Pipes,
I guess we all know that some people in the West are apologetic for islamic extremists and some people within Islam support moderate and even western values. What exactly would experts recommend to deal with this barbaric intolerance of extremists? Just be patient and vigilant until the crowd learn to behave as civilized people? I don't think it is a matter of two-three generations, nothing will change if they don't voluntarily choose to change.

I am afraid it will take a catastrophe for the entire muslim world to get an idea that intolerance and violence do not work. It took total capitulation for Germany to cure their hatred to other nations. Japan unfortunately needed a harder lesson before they took a civilized course. I know that only smart people learn on other people's mistakes. I don't wish the Muslim world make their own mistake of the same magnitude and learn a hard way like other reactionary regimes.

Is there anything we can do about it before it goes out of proportion?
