Moderate muslims no factor... now or ever

Reader comment on item: The Clash to End All Clashes?

Mr. Pipes,

Thank you for your insightful commentary. It is my belief that although the moderate Muslims you speak of are well meaning they do not and will never have the the prevailing perspective. It is simply never going to happen where they "modernize the muslim world" no matter how inclusive they attempt to be. They are and will remain a small minority. They cannot overcome the passionate, suicidal commitment to a dominant, Islamic world that is the core of their belief system and the Koran whether they divorce themselves from the radicals or not. If not overtly stated, then a Muslim world majority is clearly the logical result of the implementation of the teachings of Muhammad with no other result acceptable or tolerable.

"It is a tragic mistake to lump all Muslims with the forces of darkness. Moderate, enlightened, free-thinking Muslims do exist."

What is tragic is that these good people you speak of are trapped by tradition in a cult of personality ... They have no voice in the true Islam and never will.
