in response to reader comment: moderate muslims

Submitted by A. Ahmed (United States), Feb 7, 2006 at 19:06

Robert , When a muslim cricizes anything islamic , he is declared apostate which is punishable by death according to islamic law. That is why moderate muslims keep their mouths shut.

Salman Rusdie, Taslima Nasreen, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Irshad Manji, Ibn Warraq and Ali Sina, the well known critics of islam are all under death threats. They are either hiding or have to keep body guards 24 hours.

Mohammed Taha of a Sudanese muslim scholar , was hanged, just for suggesting reformation of islam.
A muslim cannot discard his religion or convert to another religion. Quran says:
4.89: Kill the renegades.
Mohammed said:
Bukhari:V4B52N260 "The Prophet said, ‘If a Muslim discards his religion, kill him.'"
In sharia countries , an apostate is killed by muslim mob before the cops get him.
The practising muslims tolerate moderate (or closet apostates) as long as they keep theirs mouths shut.
