Why ratify ISIS recruitment propaganda?

Reader comment on item: Barack Obama and Islam: An Ongoing Saga

Daniel, why do you resist Obama on this. ISIS claims to speak for Allah -- this is recruiting propaganda. Obama says they lie. You say: yes, ISIS speaks for Allah -- you ratify their recruitment propaganda. Do you plan to rewrite the Koran? Or will you convince a trillion Muslims to abandon their faith?

Obama could have mentioned Japanese State Shinto as a more recent history of barbarism psychologically linked to religion. The U.S. did a delicate dance -- whitewashing the Emperor Hirohito, eg., -- to distinguish the Japanese people from the militarists who twisted true Shinto into the horrible lie State Shinto. It worked. Should we have tried instead to get Japanese to renounce their faith? That would have triggered a kamikaze guerilla resistance movement.

Why help ISIS recruit more terrorists, just to score political points on Obama? (1) It didn't work, the guy got re-elected. (2) Do you believe another President will attack Iran? After Iraq? With Hezbollah fighting ISIS? More Neo-Con than Dick Cheney, who opposed Iran sanctions because it cost him money? The male hooker candidate John Edwards promised to attack Iran at Herzliya -- while singing peace to the anti-war left at the same time. It's exponentially naive to trust a political hooker. Let Obama play good cop for what it's worth. Bad cop is a job for the IDF, and the IDF alone.

Daniel Pipes replies:

I am helping ISIS recruitment? Well, if telling the truth that ISIS follows Islamic precepts helps it, then so be it. But my audience consists much more of those, like me, who oppose ISIS than of its potential recruits.

This issue, by the way, keeps coming up. See http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/2005/10/am-i-helping-the-terrorist-enemy
