As an undergraduate student at a liberal arts college, I find it very refreshing to see such normative and practical analysis. One thing that I would add to the analysis above is that, whereas there have been many non-Islamic empires (the USSR) that have acted as sponsors an patrons of an impotent-feeling Islamic world, the years in between the time that this report was written and the present have seen the emergence of such a sponsor within Islam, in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
