Mr.Varghes is ignorant of the facts. The law banning conversions by allurement, forcible and dubious means was enacted fifty years. The Church challenged and the Supreme Court upheld its validity and ruled that right to convert is not a fundamental right. Religious conversions, in a well integrated society like India, causes friction, anger and retalliation. MahathmaGandhi was against conversion and challengedthe missionaries to convert him first, before they try on the illiterates and less fortynate sections of Hindu society. Hindu society respects other religions; the two semetic religions do not accept and conversions is not acceptable, whatever the Pope may say. Mr.Varghese should realise that in muslim countries, conversions invite death penalty.
