in response to reader comment: Muslims who take their religion seriously are dedicated to destroying America

Mr. Whaley, what good would leveling Iran do, really? Flatten one country and have the rest of them go nuts. Even if they can't attack America, they'll attack their interests in other nations. Yes, Iran sponsoring terrorism is stupid. The Koran does not endorse this - the people who do are the moronic imams who haven't seen the fact that Shari'a has not been changed one bit in a millenium.

Modern Islam, like that practiced by Turkey, and to an extent by Egypt, Pakistan, Indonesia and Lebanon, is the way forward. Bombing stuff just makes more people turn to the extremists. Having Muslims in the west show their brothers in the Middle East the way forward would work much better. Governments that respond with brutality at dissent can be beaten - witness Czechoslovakia, Ukraine, Brazil, Russia and South Africa. It just happened in Lebanon - the Syrians are gone there, as are the Israelis.

Take them on by providing them the tools to create better states. Security, protection against horrific brutality, no support for the dictators and Islamic theocrats.
