What is not there is also interesting (qv Sherlock Holmes The Dog That Did Not Bark - so it was an inside job) as the review does not include the prognosis on Israel if there was one.

More pertinently when faced withh the novelty of social disruption that was urban industrialisation first the English took refuge in religion and then the Catholic peasantry of Europe. Such are the roots of the wave of Fascism in the first half of the twentieth century. This was steamrollered by the Stalinist decades that they pulled over themselves.

1945 and the Soviet dominance of Eastern Europe at last frightened the Papacy to change to the Enlightenment doctrine of religious toleration and we may look forward to a development that will do the same to the Moslem World where the petro dollars are not going to last for ever.

Second, despite xenophobia and much else enough Western Moslems are climbing the ladder of professional qualifications, commercial success and political involvement to tread the sme paths that European Jews did in the century two centuries since the Enlightenment. This of itself seeing what happened not only to Jews; but Catholics in France Spain and Italy will create enough "modern Moslems and books" to upset the medievals and dethrone them.
