The power of fear and ignorance

in response to reader comment: WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT

500,000 (at least) Iraqi children died due to sanctions imposed on Iraq by the US (UN Security Council) since 1990. Why?

Tens of thousands dead in Afganistahn due to US bombing, the removal of aid trucks causing widespread food shortage, hunger, malnutrition and disease. Why?

One million Indonesians (and East Timorese) slaughtered over the Suharto dictatorship in in "Asia's Holocaust" BACKED and supported by the United States - did you know about that? Why?

20,000 civillians dead in Lebanon thanks to Israeli attacks. US backed of course. Despite repeated calls from the UN to cease the violence.

Children in Palestine are shot by Israeli soldiers for throwing rocks in protest of their oppression. A wall is being built forcing them into ghettoes.

Many of the harsh dictatorships in modern history were supported and even instated by the West for economic advantage. Including Saddam Hussein, General Suharto etc.

I've got an idea of what we can do.. Leave them alone! Give them their right to self-governance. Accept the fact that the oil they have in their countries is THEIRS, not ours. Stop giving them reasons to hate the west. We've hurt these people again and again through millitary and economic operations and direct and indirect oppression.

I stumbled upon this site accidently. After reading this article and a couple of others, and reading the responses I feel like quite sick. Yours are the voices of fear and ignorance. The unfortunate majority, who are accutely manipulated by the right-wing media and political agendas. Most of you would have no idea of the crimes Western nations have commited against not only the middle east, but all over the world. Why? Because you don't bother to ask why the world is the way it is. You don't dig deep enough on an objective level. Your knowledge is gained from those who convey fear, paranoia and hysteria. All in the name of economic power and hegemony.

The sheer scale of muslim people killed by western power is unbelievable. It's uncomprehensible. And you talk about them being a threat to world peace. You talk about the potential dangers of their religion... WE ARE ALREADY KILLING THEM IN THE MILLIONS.
Muslims are people. Human beings. Those of you who think you advocate world peace and yet support the actions of western power in it's ruthless quest of Imperialism and the oppression of muslim people have no sense of the word peace. Starting asking WHY. Go and do some REAL learning.
