What do you mean by anti-Semitism?

Reader comment on item: Anti-Semitism Evolves

Submitted by Brad Dennis (United States), Feb 17, 2005 at 23:53

Mr. Pipes, I question exactly what you mean by anti-Semitism and hate to tell you that you are conflating hatred of people by their race with hatred of a government for its deeds. Do you mean to say that Europeans in WWII who despised Jews because of their race are exuding a similar anti-Jewish sentiment as Europeans who find Israel a threat to world peace? Furthermore, how in the world is peaceful opposition to the Israeli government, as many Europeans and Americans have manifested, anti-Semitic? Is any opposition to a Zionist, hawkish, militant, disenfranchising, abusive government anti-Jew?...
