Response to Richard E. Sykes and others

Reader comment on item: Anti-Semitism Evolves
in response to reader comment: Cause and Effect

Submitted by Peter J. Herz (Taiwan), Feb 16, 2005 at 02:14

People may be tired of the Shoah (Holocaust), but it is an important part of modern history all the same. Study and remembrance of the Holocaust reminds us that there is a very deep evil resident in human hearts which cannot be eradicated simply by technological development and education. Germany was a leader in both when it launched its anti-Jewish genocide. While the sufferings of Rwanda's Tutsi, southern Sudanese, and the Cambodians under Pol Pot are in many ways comparable, the Shoah is a reminder that such horrors can happen in the clear light of a modernized day.

As for supposed Jewish "clannishness", I'm sorry, but all of us who wish to preserve some kind of community are "guilty" of this, too. I also seek to pass my religion on to my heirs, and want my sons to marry within the Christian faith.
