Please Don't Blame Christians!

Reader comment on item: Anti-Semitism Evolves

Submitted by Mike Ramirez (United States), Feb 18, 2005 at 00:42

This article erroneously mentions that the Muslims "adopted both the old Christian themes and murderousness." Here are the true facts: Muslims adapted the penalty of stoning to death not from Christianity but from the Jewish laws. This form of penalty was meted out for adultery and is very much a part of Islam today. A Jewish person who chose another religion was also persecuted and stoned. Blasphemy was punishable by death - a Jewish punishment.

Other points: Christianity is NOT a Gentile religion; it began with a Jewish sect of believers who accepted Y'shua (Jesus) as the Sacrificial Lamb of God and who to this day believe He will return as the awaited Jewish Messiah.

The first several thousand followers of Y'shua (Jesus) were all Jews and were labeled "Christians" in the first-century at Antioch. They came under persecution and were killed by first-century Orthodox Jews who viewed them as heretics and blasphemers, penalties allowed under Jewish law.

Also, many equate Roman Catholicism and the anti-Semitic teachings of Martin Luther as being representative of true Christianity. Thus, a blanket of blame is placed upon "Christians" for the Inquisitions and the resulting persecutions and killing of Jews and for being among the first anti-Semites. Such actions and views are contrary to the teachings of Y'shua and are not Christian in any way.

The article also states in part: "...historically Christians killed most Jews." That is not a true statement as it was Roman Catholicism that did so at the behest of the Vatican and with the pope's "blessing." This to regain control out of the hands of Islamic rule that dominated Spain and other parts of Europe and return dominance to Roman Catholicism.
