Anti-Semitism

Reader comment on item: Anti-Semitism Evolves

Submitted by Dan Katcher (United States), Feb 15, 2005 at 10:33

What must be viewed as remarkable is the fact that Jews have never flown planes into buildings, have never openly expressed antagonism against another group w/o cause, have never blown themselves up in pursuit of killing innocent bystanders, have routinely tried to integrate in host countries and make contributions to their communities, have become local and regional leaders wherever they are, are sucessful merchants etc etc.

Furthermore, a collection of about 6m of them live on 8000 sq. miles in the most hostile atmosphere and have managed to maintain a democratic state, however imperfectly, against all odds. They have contributed to the arts, humanities, commerce, medicine and any number of disciplines from which we all benefit.

And yet, the irrational emotion of antisemitism exists and grows, especially in certain intellectually impoverished regions of the world. The word psychopathology doesn't begin to describe the mindset associated with this thinking.

Unfortunately, it is mainstream thinking in the Muslim/Arab world, no surprise there, and this poisonous thinking has metastasized and is growing in Europe. It has been around for a long long time and isn't going away anytime soon so Jews everywhere should take, especially in the US, the last bastion of true freedom.

As this country coddles the Muslim influx, it is likely the status of Jews will decline as the fundamentalist Muslims bring their particular brand of poison to this country.
