dont spread democracy forcefully

Reader comment on item: [The Islamist-Leftist] Allied Menace
in response to reader comment: Bush is an idealist with a sense of history (even though I think he's wrong) and you are an idealist with no sense of anything.

Dear Rick,

i liked it when you agreed with me that it is not an american responsibility to spread the (western ideal of) democracy to the Middle East. Those people are best placed to determine the best way to govern themselves and their people. You added that your responsibility is to protect the interests of the United States and that this did require you to depose of the Saddam / Baathist despotism because it was imperialist, agressive and threatened the region. It is here that i dont agree with you.

Which region did it threaten? Show me that threatened region, that could not be seen by the entire world, not even by the united nations security council but by George Bush and his war hungry comrades in crime? In case you cant show it to me, which certainly is the case, i will show you what was actually threatened and it is not a region. It is an interest. What was threatened was the oil. It saddens me to think that someone could think, that the lives of 4,000 americans and hundreds of thousands of innocent iraqis were worth the oil wealth. What class of selfless greed is this? Maybe the other intrinsic actualisation gained was the victory over islam.

See, bush can actually go ahead and write in his CV if he has any, that he managed to invade and take over a sovereign country of the 21st century in an unsanctioned war and murdered its islamic and legitimate leader on a global islamic holiday of Idd. All this he achieved, but as for the threatened american interests, that is crap if you ask me. This guy was fighting for himself and not for america. I want to hope that to this point, we do agree.
