Not really. Allahu akbar means Allah is "bigger/greater." The literal translation of Allah is most great would be: Ina allah akthar al-Kubr which is really poor Arabic.

The word akbar is from the root KBR and kabeer means big/great and akbar means bigger/greater (see Hans Wehr page 811-813) now the question becomes: Allah is greater or biggger than what?

If One is to say: Allah is big/great then it would be Allahu kabeer and not Allahu Akbar. So you can see that this is indeed a linguistic puzzle. I hope I helped
