When I was in China, I noticed that there was fierce Islamic resistance to the Communists not only in Turkic Xinjiang, but even in Hui (Sinophone Muslim) Qinghai and elsewhere. It is not quite true that the Islamic world turns a blind eye to the long-standing repression of Muslims in China (it is a matter of concern to the Malaysians and Saudis), but it is truly amazing that the Muslim street never ,never, never rises in anger despite the fact that Mao forced Muslim farmers to raise "the black bug" (Hei Chongzi, which is the Chinese Muslim euphemism for pigs).
