These are not strange bedfellows at all

Reader comment on item: [The Islamist-Leftist] Allied Menace

Submitted by Surak (United States), Jul 2, 2008 at 20:03

Dr. Pipes seems to echo the puzzlement of other well-known writers on this subject who wonder why it is that leftists don't recognize the danger they face if shari'a comes into force. This rests on the incorrect assumption that leftists don't know what they really want.

I disagree with this assumption. Reading Atlas Shrugged last year convinced me once and for all that leftists really are totalitarians, and that they have a death force operating inside. After reading this book, I completely understand (and abhor) the admiration that leftists feel upon witnessing the results of terrorism: no, not merely admiration, but even envy ("I wish I had the guts to do that").

After membership in a local union run by revolutionary Maoists, I have no doubt - it's really all true, what those on the right have been saying for the last 60 years about communism.

I have constructed a table of major world religions, in which religions are placed in civilizational pairs, to wit: Judaism and Christianity; Hinduism and Buddhism; Confucianism and Daoism. There is one more pair that belongs not to civilization but to destruction: Islam and Marxism.
