Reader comment on item: [The Islamist-Leftist] Allied Menace

Submitted by Rick (United States), Jul 1, 2008 at 10:22

Ayatollah Khomeini lived in France for years preceding his triumphant return to Iran. Iranians - and I am sure the Sha and his government knew what the danger Ayatollah Khomeini represented although no one could foresee what a total destructive personality he was to become.

So, as Iranians whom the US were supporting knew of Ayatollah Khomeini's threat therefore one must conclude so did the CIA. Which begs the question why wasn't he assassinated in France?

Think of the hundreds of thousands if not more than a million lives that could be saved by one bullet. The eight year Iran-Iraq war was horrendous with over a million killed. No Ayatollah Khomeini then probably no Iraqi attack as Saddam precieved a weakened Iran under his fanatic leadership - which was a correct observation. Lebanon lost its independence due in large part to the role played by Iran. Terrorism generally would that much less a problem today and finally we are facing a possible nuclear holocaust due to the mullah regime.

Now tell me, does all that justify an assassination or not? The failure to act when that window was available spelled doom and death for the years following. What is very sad is this lesson has not been learned and in fact, is ignored right up to our present time. Apparently, the US would prefer sending in armies causing a total uprooting of society then target specific despots.
