in response to reader comment: concept of Jihad

Imam says: "Very few people have a full understanding what 'Jihad' means. Most are ready to accept that it means war, or 'Holy war'. There are those also who know that it means 'to strive', or 'struggle', yet for some reason feel more comfortable with it meaning only war, or fighting."

Yeah right!!! Very few people including Muslims, I presume, know the true meaning of jihad? What baloney!

Muslims know exactly what jihad means and they have practised it for last 1400 years as allah has ordered them to do and that is - jihad is holy war and a duty for Muslims for spreading Islam throughout the world. I

f you don't believe it, why don't you go out on the main street in Pakistan, Saudi Barbaria, and other Islamic paradises and ask people what exactly jihad means and how it is practised? You will only get one response from the common every day Muslim that jihad means holy war against infidels and nothing else.

All this baloney about its literal meaning to strive hard or struggle to improve yourself is just plain nonsense because it's not practised that way. The real meaning of jihad is defined by the followers of Islam the way they practice it and not by what any arabic dictionary tells you!!!. So don't try to fool the infidels by telling them jihad is some spiritual struggle to improve themselves.

"When Allah says 'Jaheedu, Fis sabiallah' "strive in the way of Allah, with your persons, and property". ( for those of you who wish to argue with me over transliteration, please note there is no correct form of transliteration in Arabic, it's simply a tool to help non arabic speaking people correctly pronounce arabic words) He didn't soley mean physical fighting."

How wonderful a non-arab Muslim telling generations of Muslims in Muslim countries what allah meant when he talked about jihad.

"Every day is a struggle (Jihad) We struggle to do good at our jobs, struggle to maintain our faith, and we strive to over come all sorts of barriers that attempt to block our paths to our final goals."

If Muslims only practiced jihad as a peaceful struggle for last 1400 years as you claim, this world would have been really peaceful. Nations would not have been invaded by Muslims, nor the peaceful non-Muslims would have been killed, beheaded, murdered, raped, looted and so on. The legacy of jihad continues ...You get the drift
