Reader comment on item: Resisting Islamic Law
in response to reader comment: Mansoor: Why did Allah create Shaitan and ímpure' dogs?

Submitted by Hamid Sharraf (United States), Nov 26, 2008 at 08:07

Allah created Shaytan as a test for the believers to do what's right even with his pressure upon us to do wrong. As goes dogs, I don't know who told you that Muslims hate dogs but we do not. Dogs are not 100% najas (impure), only their saliva and their mucus is, besides of course their feces, urine, vomit, etc. Also, it's true that we do not allow dogs in the homes, but apart from that there is nothing wrong with owning a dog. Many of the companions of the Prophet SAWS had dogs that they kept as pets for the use of hunting. There's a whole book of hadiths on the etiquette of hunting with your dog in sahih al Bukhari. Dogs are outside animals anyway and prefer the outdoors to the cramped and stuffy domestic life. Haven't you ever heard of a dog house? May Allah guide you. -Hamid
