The assessment that many people make about Muslims is that most are decent people. IMHO, they are decent people in spite of Islam and not as a result of it.

It just dawned on me that if I were a muslim, and I never heard the truth about Islam's bloody history, and I was only taught the sanitized version of the Koran (with all of its violent passages removed), then I, too, would have no reason to go jihad on anyone.

The radicals are the ones who claim to be following "True Islam," and to the extent that "True Islam" is the unabridged version, then they are probably right.

The greatest misunderstanding of Islam occurs within its own ranks.
