Ideological Confusion everywhere

Reader comment on item: Intimidating the West, from Rushdie to Benedict

Both in india, and as i can see, in the west, there is hesitancy in confronting islam intellectually and ideologically. The (fallacious) idea being that - islam is a wonderful religion of 'peace", while muslims, a few misguided ones, are responsible for all the problems. It would be truer to say that today a billion precious human beings have been snared by a dangerous cult - islamism. . Today unless you say that "all religions are equal", you will be labelled as self-opinionated. But i fail to see how there is any equivalence between faiths which insist on non-believers roasting in hell, and those fatihs like the Eastern traditions and also contemplative christian traditions which have co-opted the values of modernity so much better. Unless we shed this moral relativist confusion we will never be able to confront the challenges of islamism and forge a proper ideological response. .
