Reader comment on item: Intimidating the West, from Rushdie to Benedict
in response to reader comment: Yet another sentiment of blaming ourselves?

It should be clear from my tone that I do not think the west is responsible for Muslim rioting. Some thing seldom mentioned is the fact that a person decides what is offensive and decides what they will do in reaction to the perceived offence. It is a free choice made by individuals every time.

In fact I am on record at this site, saying that we who are offended by Muslim rioters and western excuses for the rioters should buy a Bible and a Koran (in Arabic) and burn them both together publicly in the name of freedom of speech. I wish 10,000 Americans would do just that this 4th of July. I have also stated my opinion that Islam is a is a medieval fascism in the guise of religion, out of place in the modern pluralistic world. I will say now that I think Islam is a revolting creed fundamentally at odds with all of the social concepts that emerged in the west and formed the philosophic basis for modern societies. Clear?
