Kuran burning

Reader comment on item: Intimidating the West, from Rushdie to Benedict

Submitted by Prashant (United States), Mar 3, 2012 at 22:35

Dear Dr Pipes,

The whole Kuran burning incidence should be seen in the light of the fact that in many Islamic countries free practice and preaching of other religions is not possible and in most of them religious persecution of minorities happens routinely. I think US should exit Afghanistan as soon as possible. We have no reason to either protect or unprotect Kuran. Exactly what sets of historical events will make Islamic world to discover the value of freedom, knowledge, and tolerance cannot be known until those events actually happen but the civilized world is not in a position to either cause or prevent those events. Containment and propaganda are the only two methods that will work against what is going on in Islamic world. No foreign army can change their minds or hearts.
