I have to wonder what were the reactions of his parents when be left Islam (however briefly) to become a Christian (of sorts -- I'm unclear just which sect that was). After all, they had been among the founders of the local mosque! It's a wonder they didn't threaten to cut his throat.

On second thought though, perhaps that's why he did return to Islam so quickly: maybe they did threaten to cut his throat!
