Burning our candle at more than both ends

Reader comment on item: [Naveed Haq and] "Sudden Jihad Syndrome" in Seattle

Submitted by Reuben Horne (Australia), Aug 9, 2006 at 22:41

Dr Pipes,

As police scramble to sever the nexus between Islam and this vicious attack I often am given to wonder where the end game for the west will lie. Greater western industrial, technical and military might have all proven to be impotent against moral flexibility, compulsory religious conditioning, misinformation and calculated atrocity. Sadly our disadvantage seems to be almost entirely of our own construction.

Can we really blame Naveed Afzal Haq for his skewed view of the world? His actions could just as easily be motivated by the biased reporting of liberal media outlets as the rantings of a mad Islamist mullah - the two do seem to be converging in content and perspective. How many left wing commentators have called for the revisitation of Israel's history to undermine the only Democratic nation in the Middle East's right to exist? Emboldened they have even posted these views in this very forum where they are least likely to be welcome. Spontaneous jihad syndrome is a phenomenon that western liberals have had an even hand in creating.

We may be in the final age of Judeo-Christian civilisation. Witness a Europe determined to alter the course of history that was established after Turkish Janissaries were turned away from Versailles in the 1630s. We are a Judeo-Christian civilisation which seems to be governed by people who hate Christians and Europeans for ideological reasons. Simply because we have become so "broad minded" we have formed the view that all views are relative barbarian invasions are now merely problems of perception rather than hostile externalities to be repelled. Our populations contract - the right points to non procreative relationships, contraception and abortion whilst the left points to economic factors militating against starting families. Both views may be correct or neither may be all that is relevant is the trend.

Perhaps the only satisfaction one may take from impending doom is whether by an evangelical revival of the west or under the swords of the neomoorish invaders the feeble brained liberal multiculturalists who may have all but destroyed our civilisation are destined to die as well. Both physically and as an ideology.

Cordially,

Reuben Horne.
