Sudden Jihad Syndrome Commonalities

Reader comment on item: [Naveed Haq and] "Sudden Jihad Syndrome" in Seattle

Submitted by David (United States), Aug 9, 2006 at 01:33

Far from being "random" acts, the Sudden Jihad Syndrome in Seattle and
the Sudden Jihad Syndrome in North Carolina (http://www.danielpipes.org/article/3450)
have the following Islamic commonalities:

1. Both Muslim terrorists acted on the Muslim holy day, Friday.
2. Both Muslim terrorists acted on the same Muslim date of the new month, the third.
3. Both Muslim terrorists acted under a crescent moon.
4. Both Muslim terrorists were clean-shaven and had shaved heads.

Daniel Pipes replies:

My inclination is to think that opportunity and emotion drive the timing, not symbolism, but these are Interesting points. It is worth looking at other cases of SJS (such as Rashid Baz and Hesham Mohamed Ali Hedayet) to see if they also fit the pattern.
