Reader comment on item: The Islamic States of America?
in response to reader comment: A Muslim's Perspective Addressed To Mr. Pipes

Submitted by Eric Kennedy (United States), Feb 22, 2006 at 09:10

Shawkat brought up many good points. One shouldn't equate Islam to the acts of people using the name of Islam to "justify" their actions, be it to oppress their people or their neighboring country or of terrorists with their own ideological aims. Many, if not most, Muslims in the world today have been oppressed, displaced, colonized, slaughtered, and impoverished for generations now. As a result of this, many have lost their way of the straight path that Islam teaches.

We, especially in the West, should not shun or attack Muslims but work with them and help them be free of these curses. We should do so with thier consent and in a sensable way rather than imposing what we feel would help upon them forcibly. Islam is about peace and submission to the will of God. The same God as Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. If you can't imagine something being justified by thier examples and teachings, Islam probably doesn't agree or justify it either.
