Barack Obama's Muslim and African American past

Reader comment on item: Barack Obama's Muslim Childhood

Submitted by Stas (Ukraine), Jun 11, 2012 at 11:57

Of course it is relevant that the current President of the USA had a significant Muslim upbringing and has spent years in Muslim communities. It is also significant that his father and his stepfather were both practicing Muslims. The American people have seen it proper to elect a man with this background in their haste to portray themselves as non racists to have a Black President and put away the years of discrimination. But has this actually occurred? It seems that the USA has become even more divided and polar than it was before Mr Obama was elected to the office. Another interesting note is the fact that Mr Obama is not really Black or representative of the Black people of America since he is not related to those people who came from slavery and experienced the historical events of the past decades. He is not a part of that at all, in fact he is more connected to the white upper middle class through the family of this mother and grandparents with whom he spent many years in Hawaii.
