Reader comment on item: Barack Obama's Muslim Childhood
in response to reader comment: just cuz you say so

Submitted by Irfan Khawaja (United States), Jul 26, 2008 at 21:24

What makes my claim true is not that I've repeated it so many times, but that it corresponds to reality. What makes your responses to me so pathetic is not the number of times I've pointed out the fallacies in them, but that you keep making them while showing a total incomprehension of the issue.

You still haven't dealt with the most obvious reason why no one can be born a Muslim. To be born a Muslim, you have to believe in the tenets of the faith, but no one has the capacity to believe them at birth. It is really amazing that you can't seem to grasp this obvious, elementary fact. But that would explain why you can't refute it.

As someone who knows nothing about me, where I'm from, or where I've traveled, it's kind of silly for you to be giving me advice like "travel the world." Anyway, I've done my fair share of traveling in the Muslim world, and have come to know a fair share of Muslims. So I know from first-hand experience that nothing about "the world" gives infants the power of professing the Muslim creed at birth, and nothing (not even totalitarian theocracy) robs a competent adult of the choice to affirm or reject Islam thereafter.

Just to repeat what I've already said far too many times: Since Obama is a public figure, he can't, by law, initiate a defamation lawsuit. But that you defamed him would be obvious to anyone with an elementary knowledge of tort law. And that you'd lose a suit is just as obvious.
