Reader comment on item: Barack Obama's Muslim Childhood
in response to reader comment: "I want people to be against "Jihadists" and for Muslims" – K.H. Ahmed

Krista,

I don't understand where you are going - on one hand you ask all these reasonable questions -then on the other you say "I am not interested in "finding common ground" or "remembering that on the other side is a person just like me" when confronted with intolerance and hate." You ask for moderate Muslims to speak up and when they do you say "I am interested in people like you not wasting your time with people like me and for you to make a very public and loud statements about what you believe must change. …" Do you want moderate Muslims to be in oppostion to extremists or don't you - or are you saying there is no such thing as a moderate Muslim - if you believe there are none then why bother with the conversation - and if you believe there are no moderate Muslims - then truly who is intolerant.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding you - I just don't see any end game to your position other than pain and suffering for all of those involved - I read the article you noted - interestingly it was full of comments by Muslims praising Israel, its judicial system, and the corruption of their own Arab governments. This is part of the reason I believe the State of Israel is important to the Arab world - there is much they can learn from Israel. I have tried to respond as honestly as I can when you have requested comments - I have written comments not only to non-muslims but to muslims as to the need for civil conversation and the need to discuss real issues not religious issues - but if people choose to dwell upon what seperates them - then there is little I can do to improve their dialogue.
