Is mainstream media so awful that Obama was raised Muslim and no one calls him on it?

Reader comment on item: Barack Obama's Muslim Childhood

Submitted by Larry (United States), May 3, 2008 at 15:18

Obama has made an effort to make it clear that he is, and has always been Christian. He has never admitted this election cycle that he was raised Muslim. Mainstream media, even Rove or Hannity, never calls him on this. Either you Mr. Pipes are wrong or Obama is wrong.

If Obama is lying about this it's a huge issue. If Obama's wins the nomination with his childhood religion a hush hush issue, then in the general election the 527's will run ads of him stating he was always Christian, and contrast this with his childhood acquaintances talking about him memorizing Koran in religious classes and attending Mosque.

If he was raised Muslim for most of his childhood this has lasting impact on ones beliefs and the way one perceives himself and he likely share sympathies with those he spent his childhood with, but even worse, if he is being untruthful or even evasive about this it must rank up there as one of the biggest scandals ever in American politics. Even being evasive about this is almost unbelievable.
