John, the 19th century quote is fascinating. I agree with Dr Pipes that supporting the "moderate/reformed" muslims is the only way to go. Dr Pipes is fighting the islamists, you cannot do one without the other. The dangerous element about supporting the "moderates" is that by no means should political power given to legal-islamists and possibly not to anybody based on religion alone. I am afraid we are seeing political power given to islamists by governments.

I learn the lesson that the government should avoid to talk to representatives of groups, they should rather talk to individual reformed muslims, even if there is only one individual to talk to. The correct order is: fight the islamists, political power to people who oppose islamis (like Wilders), support for individual moderate muslims.
