During the 1980's, over 10,000 Iranians applied for (and received) refugee status in India.

Last I checked, India is a much-less-prosperous nation than Iran (and was even more grossly so from 1980-1989). The fact that anyone would seek refuge in a POORER country than their homeland is an unquestionable sign that they are not happy--indeed that they fear for very life!
