Of course, Infidel, I am well aware of the facts underlying your remarks, but America has no intention (I hope), and should have no intention to permit either the Sunni or the Shiites to take over Iraq and, in due course, the entire Middle East, its oil, probably complete development of nukes, acquire tens of thousands of more suicide bombers who have come to feel that the eternal murderous policy of Islam has once more proved impossible to defeat.

Accept it: the War of Civilizations, the War of Enlightenment vv Repression, of Western Civilization against the Middle East, World War III, World War IV, -- call it what you like, -- is already well underway, and we cannot escape it by withdrawing from Iraq.

I have suggested (elsewhere) that, perhaps as a beginning point, we should solve the problem of illegal immigrants by giving them a shortcut to citizenship: three years, for example, honorable military service.

It is fight now, give Militant Islamists the opportunity to destroy themselves as I orginally suggested to Daniel Pipes, or consider our world lost. I am afraid that is where the course you suggest will lead.

Of course, I am aware of the cost, but in the last analysis we must deal with Militant Islam firmly, and this very moment is none too soon to start. America should place itself on a war footing, re-institute the draft, marshall all its economy and its forces. To the extent women are able, they too should serve. We are once again seeing the early days of WWII -- yes, I saw them; I served for three years in the U.S. Army Air Force (ground support forces). I have (had) a brother who was a pilot, and another who served in the Navy at the Normandy Beachhead Invasion. Yes, I am Jewish. Nonetheless, I quite agree with the Muslims that, from the point of view of today, "Israel has been an intrusion of Western concepts and ideology into the Middle East." It has a right to be there, to remain there, a right ever to grow stronger, and it will. An element of their philosophy has been: "We have a right to extend our ideology throughout the Western World, but your ideology has no right to intrude upon the Middle East." I think not, and say again, it is a fight to the finish; we have no choice but to undertake it. The only question is, when do we rise to the task?
