To Dhimmi: Better Translation

Reader comment on item: Salman Rushdie and British Backbone
in response to reader comment: Our dear Syed and his poor translation of Q21:107

Submitted by Syed Rafey Husain (Pakistan), Jul 11, 2007 at 05:58

wa ma arsalnaka ila rahmatun lil-3aalamiina (Quran 21.107)

1. and we have not sent thee but a mercy for all people

2. and we send you except as mercy for the peoples (By Dhimmi)

Dear Dhimmi, translation 2 is better than 1. However lil-3aalamiina translated as peoples still has shade (i.e. not very near to the meaning of Arabic word)

My love to you.

Syed Rafey Husain
