Canada is a regional and diverse country

Reader comment on item: The Rot in Our [Canadian] Universities

Submitted by H.A. Whitfield (Canada), Feb 7, 2003 at 08:43

Dear Dr. Pipes,
I am an American citizen completing my doctorate in history at Dalhousie University (Halifax, Nova Scotia). I think you run the risk of painting all Canadian schools with the same brush. Indeed, the article demonstrates a lack of understanding about the regionality of Canadian culture. You make the classic mistake of applying the political winds of Central Canada to the rest of the country. York is well known for its hard left sentiments. Maybe your talk would have been received better at a more conservative school or in a different region.
