Ashamed to be Canadian

Reader comment on item: The Rot in Our [Canadian] Universities

Submitted by Patricia Gamliel (Canada), Jan 31, 2003 at 09:59

I read your article today, sent by a reknowned human rights jurist who has seen the crimes against humanity committed by extremist Islamists in Egypt, his country of origin, go unpunished.

In your recent aricle, you mention, and I quote you out of context:
"Improvement requires university stakeholders -- alumni, trustees, parents, legislators, and others -- to note the intolerance and extremism on campus, then make the necessary efforts to combat it."

Can you detail how you view the role of parents intervention on campuses when their children are adults? I am, of course, talking about parents of students who are living in Canada and thus could intervene, parents of REAL students not the ones "planted" by islamists organizations to influence the stream of thoughts in our country.

Yours truly,

Patricia Gamliel

Daniel Pipes replies:

If parents of students join together, they can win changes in the university environment.
