The two wings of Islamism

Reader comment on item: How Terrorism Obstructs Radical Islam

Submitted by Donald W. Bales (United States), Aug 23, 2005 at 16:41

I don't want either of them to succeed. Both are destructive to Western civilization or civilized society. The violent wing is obviously very bad, but making Europe or the U.S. accept Sharia law or other Muslim or Islamic customs would be counter-productive to the society or the economy.

It reminds me very much of the Communists who used force where they could safely do so and used the freedom of the non-Communist countries to try to infiltrate and work from within. Political correctness and multiculturalism allows them to get away with behavior that should not be tolerated.

The main concern that I have is that so many people do not see the threat, just as they did not see the threat from Hitler and from the Communists. The Communists were more dangerous because they did not rely just on military, but also recruited people in the West to work with them and for them, the "Useful Idiots" that Lenin wrote and spoke about. I perceive that we have a lot of "useful idiots" who are allowing or even promoting radical Islamic goals without even knowing it.
