Reader comment on item: How Terrorism Obstructs Radical Islam

Submitted by J.S. (Canada), Aug 26, 2005 at 18:17

To return the discussion back to Dr. Pipes article -- Dr. Pipes argues that terrorist violence galvanizes Westerners. But does it really? What happened in Spain? Why was the Spanish response so lacking? It seems to me, that sometimes Westerners are "galvanized" but I don't believe it's true for everyone (there are large numbers of people who simply don't care about Islamism, its threat to the West, terrorism, and so on...(they call themselves "pacifists.") I think this pacifistic response needs to be considered -- why won't they defend themselves? (the pope, for example, opposes the war in iraq, etc.)
