Reader comment on item: How Terrorism Obstructs Radical Islam

Submitted by Steve Klein (United States), Aug 23, 2005 at 13:42

I believe terrorism helps Islam. How many Muslims do not support the radicals? I suspect it is fewer than Dr. Pipes and other experts would like to believe. There's Italian Sheik Abdul Hadi Palazzi and a few others. How many others are our friends?

Dr. Pipes wrote of terrorism:

"First, it alarms and galvanizes Westerners."

This is true. Right after Sept. 11, 2001, George W. Bush and his Saudi friends were looking for a scapegoat (fifteen of the nineteen hijackers were Saudi nationals and Bush ushered the bin Laden family out of the U.S. with the FBI's help, el-pronto) and we did manage to find a scapegoat.

Israel.

Israel, Bush declared, needed to create a terrorist state in the 'West Bank' (Judea and Samaria), in Gaza and possibly east Jerusalem according to Bush's roadmap and his quartet that he cobbled together to bully and intimidate Israel. So, yes of course terror galvanizes Westerners. Look what the West has wrought in the past week and a half in Israel with its puppet prime minister. Galvanized? Of course. By God we are galvanized if it means the expulsion of the last Israelite from Israel!

"Second, terrorism obstructs the quiet work of political Islamism."

With all due respect to professor and author Daniel Pipes, this obstruction only lasts for a few days. Right after 9/11, Ibrahim Hooper, CAIR's spokesman was asked if he would condemn bin Laden for the atrocity here in the U.S. Hooper said "if" bin Ladin did it he would condemn him by name. But why the "if?" Hooper resented the question.

The quiet work of political Islam which is part and parcel of the Jihad goes on and is successful. Just last week the quiet work of political Islam got Michael Graham, the Washington, D.C., talk-show host fired. Terrorism works. Yes, indeed.
