The Core Problem

Reader comment on item: Saudis Import Slaves to America

Well here is my two cents worth. The problem as I see it is that Muslims are very proud of the Koran, and believe that in Arabic, it is the perfect word of God. Therefore it is perfect in every way.

Now that is the core of the problem. If God dictated every word to Mohamed, and every word was his word for all mankind, he would have written it so everybody can understand it. You cannot claim something is perfect when it clearly has flaws.

The first flaw is it isn't clear, all the arguments on here prove it isn't concise. It contradicts itself, and even things like Mohamed laws of inheritance don't add up. If the Koran was the word of God, it would not be hard to understand; we are talking God here!

It is funny that books like the Koran and the Bible can be used for good and bad, depending on who is quoting them. Unfortunately the Koran does not translate well into modern times if read a literal document.

If Mohammed robbed camel trains, had multiple wives, traded and owned slaves, had sex with underage children, murdered and raped 1400 years ago fine, it is history. But to use him as an example as to how to live today would clearly have whoever copied him in gaol in most advanced societies today. Even saying a woman's testimony is only worth half of that of a male would get him in court for sexual discrimination.

Many cultural practices that are abhorrent to advanced societies find a justification in the Koran.

The bible was used the same way, until it was decreed that the bible is not a literal document but was inspired by God and needs interpretation from the original social context it was written. Some Christians still believe it is a literal document, but they are in a minority.

Until Islam makes the same leap, it will always be used to justify sexism, polygamy, rape, murder, slavery and paedophilia. All those same crimes happen in Western culture, but religion isn't used as an excuse for allowing it to happen.

The facts are, the last countries the outlaw slavery were Muslim countries. Therefore it is reasonable to deduce that Islam is the least effective Religion in reducing slavery.

Muslims often quote morality issues/rape statistic to show how corrupt the Western/Christian cultures are compared to Muslims. However Muslim countries top the list of Pornographic site usage according to Google. Incidences of rape in Muslim countries are under reported, and a significant percentage of rapes in western countries are committed by Muslims. That Muslims in western countries commit rape at a much higher rate than the native populace. There are many statistics to support this from Europe and many other countries.

I fear that many Muslims are so trapped into the world of Muslims Vs non-Muslims, that they lose all sense of the reality of the modern world. Most Muslims sit in silence and let the lunatic fringe control the image of Islam.

We in the West constantly hear from loud mouth Muslims how they hate the west, how they want to kill or convert us and rape our women. You rarely hear any Muslims holding these loud mouths to account.

Yet when a Westerner criticises Islam for these loud mouths and what the idiots say, all the good Muslims come out quoting the Koran and telling us how peaceful and wonderful it is and how the Westerners are wrong. That is bullshit if you excuse my language.

I have seen the videos of proud Muslims cutting the heads of bound western hostages. I have seen the bombing victims on TV, I have been to the Middle East and seen how Islam "reduces slavery."

Western cultures and Governments have made many mistakes, and committed some of the worst crimes against humanity. But it was western forces who stopped Hitler, not Muslims. It was Western Governments who stopped slavery in the West, not Muslims. The west does have the ability to see what is wrong, and do something about it. The west criticises itself far more effectively that the Muslim world ever has.

Evil only truly triumphs when good men do nothing.

Muslims the world over keep reacting to Western criticism of Islam, and then deny things that are done by Muslims in the name of Islam. I.e. 911 was a Jewish plot. Muslims are allowing evil to triumph by their silence as to their own shortcoming and always blaming others.

I, as a proud Roman Catholic, can say there are things I don't agreed with in the bible, and with the Catholic Church.

I hope Muslims one day may say the same thing about Islam.
