Reader comment on item: Obama Would Fail Security Clearance
in response to reader comment: Beg to differ...

Submitted by peter murray (Ireland), Nov 9, 2008 at 13:56

The allegations in this unsubstantiated rant have been debunked over and over again. The same allegations have been repeated endlessly in a thousand right-wing blogs. The US electorate read the allegations, assessed the evidence and assessed the reliability of its source(s), and made up its mind.

The interesting point is that while Obama is not a Moslem, many of the commentators on this blog seem to think that a Moslem American would somehow be unfit for office. There are many in this land who also believe that a Jew would be unsuitable as commander-in-chief. I can remember not so long ago when Joe Libermann was selected as Vice-Presidential candidate. The whispers of prior loyalty to Israel over the US were everywhere, and I would presume, found a resonance with a certain element. How sad that Semites, Jew or Moslem, would be held in the eyes of some as unfit for high office or less loyal to their country than their Christian fellow-citizens.

I have no doubt that Obama will serve his nation with dedication and loyalty. I have no doubt also that he will deal with foreign countries, France, Israel, Egypt, Russia, wherever; prioritizing and protecting US interests, evenhandedly, and in accordance with the values espoused in our great Constitution.
