Reader comment on item: Obama Would Fail Security Clearance

Submitted by joe six-pack (United States), Oct 25, 2008 at 10:57

I don't know much about security clearance. I do know that Senator Obama intends to place the U.S. on the stragetic defensive. He also intends to cut back weapons procurment and research. He also intends to end strategic missile defense programs. And place a halt on nuclear weapon development. In other words, his program is to place the U.S. military on a full peace time posture. This is a grave mistake.

The U.S. is currently in a shooting war. Generally, a defensive posture is forced upon combatants. The reason is that wars are won by the side that escalates to a level that the other side can not or will not match. The hope is that the warlike tendencies will cool off and we can talk the populations into working with us and not against us. A strange part about this is that this same school of thought believes that our invasion of Iraq created many new "terrorists". These new "terrorists" and their supporters are going to go away or be defeated locally.

One of the posters said that it will take another 9/11 to wake the U.S. up again. Senator Obama's defensive posture will allow our enemies (Who are recovering after taking heavy losses in Iraq) to resume the offensive. While defense is an important part of fighting any war, withdrawals and retreats only allow your defeated forces to survive to fight another day. This is what is occurring to our enemy, not to us.

With a President Obama, we can expect an increasing rate of attacks upon our 'soft' targets. If a President Obama does not respond effectively enough, eventually the attacks will escalate to a level far above that of 9/11.
