I read an article that quoted a FBI agent who said that elected officials (senators, representatives) are not checked because the voters will have checked their background. So if a bunch of people can be fooled or persuaded by a charlatan to elect a commie in their state or district, then the rest of us are stuck with him. That's something the founding fathers didn't take into account. A better form of government is a beneficent dictatorship which always has the good of the people in mind when making policies and decisions.
